Event Showcase | Launching an All-Round Venue

We love attending a venue launch. It’s the perfect opportunity to check out the best of the new venue’s facilities, and get a taste of the catering too. A great venue launch allows guests to experience how the venue operates in event mode – a much more immersive experience than just a site visit can provide.

However, when a venue can accommodate rock concerts, as well as conferences and gala functions, how do you host a venue launch that mirrors the experience the potential use that the invited guests would want to see?

The events team at the newly refurbished Roundhouse found themselves in this predicament when they recently relaunched Sydney’s only truly all round venue.

To solve the problem, they hosted two very different events. The first, a corporate focussed networking event where their new panel of caterers were present to offer samples of their specialties. The second, a gig with a VIP reception beforehand, attended by staff, partners and clients.

Let’s take a look at the two different events designed to showcase the all-round facilities at the Roundhouse…

Event #1 – The corporate-focused networking event

The Venue

The event was mostly held in the main room, with a couple of banquet tables set for dinner (examples only), along with high-tops for perching drinks. The stage and impressive new in-house AV were also on display.  The breakout rooms upstairs were set to show a selection of configurations - theatre style, boardroom and empty rooms with a combination of dividing doors open/closed were on display to give clients a sense of what’s possible in the space.

The team conducted tours throughout the evening, giving attendees a personalised experience of the venue, highlighting the new audio-visual equipment (concert-grade flown PA, modular stage, lighting truss), the outdoor beer garden, the 8 multifunctional breakout spaces, the improved sightlines, the dedicated box office/cloakroom area and other venue details such as the Australian spotted-gum wood panelling throughout, adding a fresh and earthy feel to the venue.

The Catering

The venue’s new panel of four Sydney caterers - Bayleaf Catering, Lassiez-Faire Catering, European Catering and Bon Vin - each had a food station set around the perimeter of the room. They also tray-served a selection of canapes to guests all evening. The highlights included a Bayleaf’s taco station, the Duck Ravioli from Bon Vin, Laissez-Faire’s seafood station and European’s Chicken & shitake Rice Cakes… all delicious!

Event Styling

The venue was left relatively undressed, which allowed the new interior features to really stand out. The gorgeous Australian Spotted Gum wood panelling throughout the venue gives the large venue warmth and architectural beauty.

Event #2 – The VIP Concert

The Venue

In the past the Roundhouse was a prominent Sydney concert venue and that heritage was not going to be forgotten during the refurbishment. The new state-of-the-art sound system and improved acoustics of the venue will ensure that concerts will return to this unique venue. For corporate event planners, this is also a bonus for presentations and gala functions.

The second event kicked off with a VIP reception in the upstairs Club Bar. After the formalities, the support band, Tora, took to the stage, before San Cisco headlined the reopening for a one-off Sydney performance.

The main room was used for general admission while the mezzanine balcony hosted VIPs who attended the function beforehand, giving them an optimal view of the band and the room.

The Catering

European Catering offered a selection of cold canapes, warm canapes, bowl food and a grazing station to cater the reception.
