Meet Caroline Marando. Currently the Venue Services Coordinator at Sydney Living Museums, Caroline looks after events at Museum of Sydney, The Mint and Justice and Police Museum. Caroline loves homemade pasta and a great breakfast,, but her favourite thing is her job! Not surprisingly either – look at the remarkable venues she gets to work in every day. Give us a snap shot of your career to date.

I started working in Fashion & Lifestyle PR as soon as I left University, in both Australia and Overseas, and then moved into events.

The most memorable event you have worked on and why?

We work with the team from Gucci on their press showings at Elizabeth Bay House. They have a fantastic team of extremely creative people, and I love seeing their concepts come to life in such a beautiful heritage venue – not to mention all the amazing clothes and accessories!

What did you ‘learn the hard way’ when planning an event?

Always reconfirm dates and times with your suppliers!

What are three personality traits that are required to succeed in the events industry?

Creativity, Patience and Efficiency

If you could share one piece of advice to those starting out in the industry what would it be?

Be prepared to work hard, and take on every event as a new learning experience

What song always gets you on the dance floor?

Anything 90’s rnb & soul

If you could plan an event anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

Italy: the people, the culture, the food – simple things, done really well.

If you had to choose one meal to eat for the rest of your life what would it be?

Homemade pasta

What skill or talent would you most like to learn and why?

Languages – I love to travel and wish I was much better at communicating wherever I go

What can you not live without in your life?

Besides Coffee, at the moment our team at work is into f45 – so it’s a close second!

How do you unwind after a big event?

With a glass of wine

Favourite restaurant?

I love a good breakfast and can’t go past Little Jean in Double Bay and Cho Cho San in Potts Point for dinner.

Best event you’ve been to as a guest?

My good friend’s wedding at Halcyon House – the venue, the food, the hospitality – everything was amazing!

What do you prefer, cocktail party or sit-down dinner?

For bigger groups a cocktail party, but you can’t go past a sit-down dinner for an intimate event.

What’s your drink of choice at an event?

Cocktails
