Event Showcase | Event Birdie Review’s Get Global 2019
Last week we headed along to the award-winning exhibition, Get Global held at ICC Sydney. Now in its third year, Get Global 2019 was our first… What did we think? Let’s take a look…
Get Global is all about inspiring and helping you GET your events overseas – encouraging you to jump on a plane and take your group to interesting places outside of Australia. The look and feel of the show is colourful, vibrant and welcoming – we loved it!
The event is not huge (120 exhibitors) making it the perfect size to get around in half a day.The floor plan was spaced out nicely with loads of props and bright large-scale prints around. We also really liked the entrance feature, which was bang-on theme for the event.
Exhibitors were grouped together per global region, highlighted by big lofty balloons for signage – again adding to the great look and feel of the event.
The exhibitors were all eager to chat, friendly and informative.
Were we inspired to travel overseas? Absolutely!
THE GET SMART ZONE….
No industry exhibition is complete without an education element. At Get Global they call this the Get Smart Zone. Sponsored by Saxton Speakers, the Get Smart Zone was tucked in a corner of the exhibition floor with the guests listening via head phones. We see this at exhibitions more and more and it’s a great way to keep delegates within the main exhibition space without disturbing the surrounding exhibitors.
Kicking off the Get Smart zone was Michelle Bridges who warmed up the delegates with 10 squats before going on to present a wonderful and inspiring talk. Focusing on finding what “fuels” you and letting that drive your motivation to succeed. Michelle’s fuel is fitness and health, and she shared with us how it’s acted as a great driver in her life from an early age to now. We highly recommend Michelle as a motivational conference speaker.
The rest of the program included thought-provoking and informative talks from Felicity Furey, Janine Garner, Curtis McGrath, Andrew Klein and Matt Jones… All of the speakers were well received by those dropping in and out of the Get Smart Zone throughout the day.
The vibe on the exhibition floor was relaxed and friendly. Exhibitors and buyers were engaged with each other and we’re positive that there was a lot of potential business being discussed.

THE VENUE & FOOD….
ICC Sydney is a fabulous venue – fresh, new and modern. It’s also super convenient for those living/ working in Sydney and those from out of town. There’s plenty of parking, hotels and access to public transport.
However, each time we attend an event like this at ICC, one of the things that impresses us most, is the fact the catering team will tailor a menu to meet the event’s needs.
At Get Global the menu was fresh and on theme. Rather than a large buffet, the food service was positioned around the venue in each of the global zones. At lunch time the menu at each station reflected the region it was sitting within. The Hawaiian zone had Poke Bowls, within the China Zone it was dumplings and noodles, the UK & Europe zone featured beef and Yorkshire puddings, and within the New Zealand section overnight braised lamb… just to name a few. Yum!
The variety was great and the ability to “eat around the world” was a nice concept.
If you’re responsible for booking and planning business events overseas then you’d better GET to Get Global 2020. It has such a great feel and will definitely leave you inspired by destinations to suit all types of events – from incentives for 20 to large-scale global conferences for 5000.
