Meet Anna Malanos. Currently the Event Manager at Urban Winery Sydney she started out in Media, PR and Advertising. Anna loves working in the chaotic world of events and is friends with notes, labels, details (aren’t we all?!) and her dog Archie. Give us a snap shot of your career to date.

I actually studied a Bachelor’s degree in Media, Public Relations and Advertising. It was during one of my internships for this course, where I got my first hands on exposure within events. After pursuing a career more specifically related to my studies, I decided to go with my gut and took the plunge applying for a job at well-known events and catering company in Sydney. Fast forward and I now am very proud to say that I am now Event Manager at Urban Winery Sydney and am loving every minute of it.

The most memorable event you have worked on and why?

It’s very hard to choose as they genuinely all are memorable for their own unique reason however I would probably say one of the first weddings I ever worked on for the sheer joy of being able to assist the couple in achieving their dream day in spite of a few curveballs.

What did you ‘learn the hard way’ when planning an event?

Always have a Plan B and a Plan C. You can never be too prepared.

What are three personality traits that are required to succeed in the events industry?

Cooperation, Determination and Resourcefulness!

If you could share one piece of advice to those starting out in the industry what would it be?

Take lots of notes and label everything!! Details are your friends.

What song always gets you on the dance floor?

Italian for sure!!!!!!!

How would your friends describe your job?

Chaotic but interesting!

How do you unwind after a big event?

Feet up in front of the TV with my best pal Archie (my dog!) at my side

Coogee Beach at sunrise!

Cocktail party!

What is your ideal holiday destination?

Anywhere with a beautiful beach – EUROPE

Gin and Tonic

It’s event day – heels or flats?

Hands down – FLATS!

Why do you love your job?

Working with lots of different people and never having the same two days in a row!
