How to Plan a Low-Fuss Wedding
There are many people who don’t consider themselves to be “wedding people”. When the time comes to set a date and tie the knot, they are not rushing to the newsagent to buy 10 glossy bridal mags. They are not setting up Pinterest boards for their favourite wedding dresses, cakes, styling, bonbonnieres or shoes for the big day. They are certainly not planning on attending any bridal fairs, they don’t want the hassle of DIY and when they Google “non-traditional weddings” in the hope of some guidance, they screw their noses up at the list of medieval, sports-themed and quirky ideas that fill the first page.
No, these people want to approach their day with minimal fuss. They simply want a lovely day with their close family and friends, a great meal and good times to mark saying “I-do” with the one they love. Let’s be honest, no wedding is ever going to be stress-free, but with a little guidance it is possible to have that gorgeous day you were hoping for without having to become a bridezilla or a stressed out groom. So here it is, our gift to you. A lesson on planning a low-fuss wedding.
The first step in planning a low-fuss (or even a fussy) wedding is to put the guest list together. This will determine where you can host the wedding. No point falling in love with an idea and realising you have to cut key people from the list to fit in. Don’t spend a lot of time on the list, it’s pretty simple – who do you want to come?
Now that you know how many people you would like to invite, you need to consider where you’re going to host your wedding:
- Host your low-fuss wedding at a restaurant
- Host your low-fuss wedding at a venue
- Host your low-fuss wedding at home1. Host your low-fuss wedding at a restaurant
Let’s consider each option and you can decide what suits you best.
Weddings at a restaurant with a private dining room or where you can book out the place are fabulous for the low-fuss brides & grooms. The atmosphere and styling of the room is already in place, the kitchen is there ready to cook for you and the service should be pretty seamless.
Event Birdie loves restaurants like Empire Lounge where you can host your ceremony on the beach and then enjoy an intimate reception in the restaurant. No additional styling needed, except perhaps some nice flowers down the table. They even have an in-house events co-ordinator to help you with any extras you might need. Stylish, sophisticated and very low fuss to organise.
Choosing a venue on the other hand can open up a lot more choice, but you may also find yourself staring at glossy brochures of “wedding packages silver, gold and platinum”. Now we know that this is not going to appeal to our low-fuss couples – sure it’s all there in a package, but all of a sudden you’re reading about chair covers with a choice of coloured sash and “fussy wedding” springs to mind. So, when considering venues you can go one of two ways…
The simplest option is to pick a venue that has a great ambience on its own, no need for lots of styling. Event Birdie loves the Yallamundi Rooms at the Sydney Opera House. It has fabulous views over Sydney Harbour and dramatic floor to ceiling glass windows streaming with natural light. The catering is in-house and, again, a few table centres and you’re done!
Alternatively, choose a blank canvas venue where you can hire someone to make it look nice. Now you might be freaking out at the thought of this, but trust us… getting in a stylist is worth it. It will look sharp, you won’t have to lift a finger and if you are completely clueless on what will look good then just leave it to them to create the right atmosphere for you – after all, they are the professionals. Sure this will add to your wedding budget, but we never said low-fuss was cheap! Event Birdie has a great selection of blank canvas wedding venues in Sydney and once you get in touch with one of our fabulous stylists, you will be well on your way to planning a low-fuss wedding.
Our final low-fuss option is to have your wedding at home (or someone else’s). If you are lucky enough to have a great house for a party then this is a fabulous option, although it must be considered carefully. If the home owner is going to stress about moving a little furniture and lots of people using the bathroom, then this may not be the option for you. If they are stressing because you have to engage a caterer, then relax – this is not only much easier than anyone imagines, it’s also a really fun part of hosting a low-fuss wedding.
In Sydney we have some of the best caterers in the world, all using fabulous fresh Australian produce, creating innovative menus and tailoring events to meet your requirements. Most caterers will also help with all the tables, chairs, linen, staff, cutlery, crockery and also the styling – bonus! Event Birdie loves this option as having a wedding at home means you will be relaxed, comfortable and so will your guests. The ultimate in low-fuss weddings!
So you should now have a venue, food and styling covered. Add some music and a photographer and you’re done! Sounds hard? Well it’s not – check out Event Birdie’s great selection of suppliers here. (If you dont find your perfect choice now, check back soon as our list is growing daily!)
