Weddings at the Yallamundi Rooms

When planning your dream wedding, every couple wants a breath-taking backdrop for their special day. Perfectly situated in one of the world’s most spectacular locations, under the sails of the iconic Sydney Opera House, none live up to that title more so than the newly opened Yallamundi Rooms.

The name Yallamundi means “storyteller” in the local Indigenous language of the Gadigal, who are the original custodians of Bennelong Point. It is precisely what you can do when you celebrate your special day in the Yallamundi Rooms – tell your own love story within the walls of this exceptional event space.

Only opened in April 2019, the space is contemporary in its execution, but a deep connection to the past remains. The interior includes unique walls that have been described as a “tapestry of concrete”, and these walls themselves tell the story of the building’s origin. The markings on each section are from the original construction workers who built the Sydney Opera House and have been exposed, then carefully restored. The beautiful terrazzo granite floor has also been revived, coupled with Danish-designed chairs and oscillating fabric and brass panels along the southern side of the new rooms. This creates a harmonious fusion between the past and present and the ideal setting for a modern-day love story.

Best of all, the rooms have dramatic floor to ceiling glass windows that not only flood the space with natural light but allow you and your guests to bask in uninterrupted harbour views; from the Harbour Bridge, across to the north and out to the heads. This all-weather event space opens directly on to the concourse, offering each room its own exclusive outdoor area; ready for you to take full advantage of the outlook.

Celebrate your love in this remarkable space and enjoy the unprecedented views it offers — it is precisely what you would expect to find within the walls of this famed building. Designed with flexibility in mind, the crescent-shaped Yallamundi Rooms can be split into three separate rooms – making it extremely versatile for weddings of any size. For more intimate weddings, each room can accommodate 50 guests for a seated meal and 80 guests for a cocktail event. For larger weddings, the space can be fully opened to hold 400 guests for a cocktail reception and 180 people for a seated meal. When open, this unique space spans the entire northern end of the eastern podium; offering private access to the Northern Broadwalk.
