What To Expect From Melbourne’s Newest World-Class Venue
There is no doubt that Melbourne plays on the world stage when it comes to hosting events. From prestigious sporting events like the Australian Open to big scale conferences and incentives, to high-quality theatre, comedy and the arts – Melbourne is a city that thrives on playing “the host with the most”.
So, when we heard that the team at Melbourne & Olympic Parks was working on a new world-class venue that has been designed for functions and events, we got pretty excited to learn more. While most of the venues at Melbourne Park are available for event hire, their newest venue, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park is set to offer something extra special for event planners.
Due to open in late 2021, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park has been meticulously designed to meet the needs of event planners, while giving the City a venue that screams “We’re Melbourne”.
Let’s take a look at a few of the venue’s key design elements that will have you pre-booking your events before you even step inside the building!
Location, location, location…
Let’s start with the location. What a lot of visitors to Melbourne marvel at is how close Melbourne Park is to the CBD – you can walk! If you’re from Sydney you will be flabbergasted at just how easy it is to get to (and away from) a major sporting and entertainment district. CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park is so convenient that even if you don’t feel like walking, the public transport options, parking facilities and access via the river will have you chirping too.
Australia is a beautiful country, so when designing CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park the architects worked hard to embody characteristics of the Australian native landscape, inviting the outdoors in.
Expansive windows stretch the length of the venue, flooding the event spaces with natural light. The surrounding open green spaces and Australian gum trees add to the ambience too.
Flexibility in spades and size….
CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park is a large venue with the ability to cater up to 3000 guests for a cocktail party and 1400 for a gala dinner in the main ballroom. But, don’t be put off by those big numbers if you have a small party of 10… they can host those events too!
Built over three levels the venue offers a combination of flexible function spaces plus a high number of break out rooms. The venue has been designed to handle simultaneous and consecutive events with ease by including a central logistics hub and multiple access points into and out of the venue.
And, that tricky task of finding a venue that can accommodate a car is easily solved at CENTREPIECE with the ability to have cars drive into the pre-function area and the ballroom.
Sustainability made simple….
Let’s face it, creating sustainable events can be tough work, so finding a venue that will help you reach those goals is a major bonus!
As a new build, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park has been built with LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and is striving to operate with zero waste. The venue will feature a water capture and harvesting program, e-water in the kitchens, a composting and food de-hydration system and a rooftop garden where the culinary team will grow vegetables and fruits that will feature across the venue’s menu.
In addition, the team is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and will work with each client to deliver their events with as little to no carbon footprint as possible.
It’s all about the menu…
If like us, you’ve had the pleasure of being wined and dined by the culinary team behind CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park, you too would attest to it being one magnificent gastronomic experience. Typical “Function food” it is not – delicious, creative and memorable it is!
The new menus for CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park are currently being curated by Delaware North Executive Chef Asif Mamun. Designed around their Paddock to Plate philosophy expect to see the team focus on locally sourced and seasonal produce from areas in Victoria such as Gippsland, The High Country, Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula. The gastronomy experience will be complemented with Victorian wines, locally brewed beers, small-batch spirits and premium Melbourne-based coffee roasters.
Melbourne is the foodie capital of Australia and you and your guests will not be left wanting once you taste what’s on offer at this world-class venue.
